Constituencies under opposition neglected 2020
WALVIS BAY - Governor of the Erongo region Neville Andre says constituencies, where Swapo failed to register wins in the past elections, have been neglected by opposition leaders.
Andre made the claim on Saturday during a Swapo rally at Walvis Bay where President Hage Geingob addressed ruling party supporters and candidates for the upcoming regional council and local authority elections.
The Walvis Bay Urban constituency is currently headed by independent candidate Knowledge Ipinge while Daures has been in the hands of the United Democratic Front councillor, Kennedy !Haoseb. “We see that the constituencies that we lost in the region which was Walvis Bay Urban and Daures have been neglected by the opposition that won those constituencies as their focus was on complaining and fighting the Swapo government and not focusing on developing those constituencies,” Andre said.
According to Andre, Swapo should learn from that experience that you are not fit to lead if you focus your energy on emotional issues and fighting one another.
“Let’s recommit ourselves and be very honest with ourselves about our shortcomings in order to really grow as comrades, a party and as a nation that was born on Swapo values,” he said.
Andre thanked the Swapo-led government for continuing to provide a consistent social security net for many Namibians in these difficult times. “Many countries simply cannot honour many of their commitments to their vulnerable people, our government has and continues in their ability to deliver to our people,” Andre said.
Refuted
Meanwhile, UDF candidate for the Karibib constituency Erenestus Axakhoeb refuted the claims, saying Andre was blinded by the failures of Swapo during the last five years.
“His eyes are only open to see what has not taken place in the areas where opposition is in charge. What did they as Swapo do to address the high unemployment, poverty, hunger, stagnation, backwardness of the Karibib constituency after the more than 30 years under Swapo’s rule?” he wanted to know.
“I urge you to be at your best as with this type of reasoning, we are going to kick your colleague out of Karibib constituency.”
