Kunene registers over 58 000 eligible voters
KHORIXAS - A total of 58 548 voters have registered in the seven constituencies of the Kunene region for the upcoming regional council and local authority elections, the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s (ECN) voter register shows.
The elections are slated for 25 November 2020.
The recently released register indicates that the Epupa constituency has 12 182 registered voters, Opuwo Urban 10 590,
Opuwo Rural 7 315, Outjo 9 197, Khorixas 8 788, Sesfontein 5 614 and Kamanjab 4 862 registered voters respectively.
The register, released by the ECN, says a total of 69 676 voters were registered during the supplementary voter registration exercise.
It said 1 643 deceased voters were removed and an additional 7 895 voters removed through the Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) or manual litigations, bringing the total number of registered voters for all 121 constituencies of Namibia to 1 408 670.
The ECN in a media statement recently said the commission is currently busy with the voter and civic education activities in all 14 regions of the country to educate citizens about the importance of casting their vote.
“The objectives of the voter and civic education for the forthcoming elections are to ensure that the electorate is well educated on the correct marking of ballot papers to minimise the number of rejected or spoilt ballots, as well as to increase voter turnout,” said the commission. - Nampa
