I will end Ukelo’s career, Ndafoluma warns

- ■ Maurice Kambukwe

Local boxing veteran Lukas “The demolisher” Ndafoluma yesterday sternly warned opponent Christian Ukelo that he made a huge mistake for accepting to fight him this weekend, as he will prematurely end Ukelo’s career.

Ndafoluma is scheduled to face Ukelo on Saturday in the main fight of the “Back to Action” Boxing Bonanza to be hosted by the MTC Salute Boxing Academy at Roman Catholic Hall in the capital.

At yesterday’s press conference held in Windhoek, which saw the two boxers coming face-to-face, a confident Ndafoluma assured fans that he is well prepared for the fight and went on to fire a verbal warning shot at Ukelo, telling his opponent that Saturday might mark the end of his career if he comes unprepared.

“I am very happy to be here as it is a great relief to be back again in the ring after months without fighting. Thanks to our sponsors MTC for making this possible for us. On Saturday’s bout, I will say that I am ready and will be ready. I have a feeling that I will hurt someone on the night of the fight, I have been having this feeling for a while now. I will hurt my opponent so bad but not at the level where I will injure him, but if that happens then it will be very unfortunate. I just hope it will not be the end of his [Ukelo] career because the way that I am going to hurt him is different, it might end his career if he comes unprepared,” a boastful Ndafoluma said.

But an unbending Ukelo seemed unshaken by Ndafoluma’s words, in return saying he is a man of few words and will only do the talking in the ring with his fists come Saturday night.

“I am not that person who loves talking too much, my action is in the ring where my fists will speak for themselves. So for now, I will just say my fans should watch me out on Saturday,” said a calm Ukelo.

The organisers said the event will be staged behind closed doors with a limited number of attendees but will be broadcasted live on NBC TV and livestreamed on all social media platforms. On fight night, only a few people will be allowed to enter and that includes the media, the sponsors, match officials, and VIPs.

The main supporting bout will be the return of Anthony Jarman, who will face Daniel “Open Fire” Kashela and Nathaniel Kakololo will also be in action with a fight against Johannes Niinkoti, Bernard Bernard will square off against Nestor Amukoto in one of the many fights that will see the return of most of the country’s top prospects.
