Tura Magic applies to NFA top tier league
Tura Magic Football Club (FC) has officially applied to join the envisaged Namibia Football Association (NFA) top tier league. The application dated 12 November, signed by club director Isack Hamata and addressed to the acting secretary general of the NFA Franco Cosmos stated that: “The club is officially applying to become a member of the Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL).”
If admitted they become the 11th club to join the likes of Julinho Sporting Club, Mighty Gunners, Blue Waters, Young Africa, Black Africa (BA), Young Brazilians, Civics, Citizens, Orlando Pirates, and Tigers in the NPFL.
Speaking to Nampa, Hamata said they had decided to apply with the league based on the current situation in football. In August, the NFA had written to 16 premier league clubs inviting them to apply to be part of the new top tier league.
Magic did not apply at the time, saying they were awaiting the outcome of the Court of Arbitration for Sport between the NPL and the NFA. The NPL then registered itself with the Business and Intellectual Property Authority (BIPA) as an ‘association not for gain’ with the aim of professionalising football in Namibia in the same month.
In September, the minister of sport, youth and national service Agnes Tjongarero instituted a Committee of Eminent Persons to investigate the problems currently bequeathing Namibian football and make recommendations on the way forward. On Wednesday 13 November, the CEP sent its recommendations to the NPL.
