Trucker wanted for diverting consignment
OMUTHIYA - The Oshikoto police are searching for a male suspect who is on the run after diverting a consignment of products to his cuca shop in Onkakolo, while abandoning the truck in Omuthiya.
The consignment was destined for Oshikango, however, with the assistance of the owner the police were able to recover the items as the truck is fitted with a monitoring system, said regional police commander Armas Shivute.
“It is alleged the suspect drove from Windhoek to offload stock at Oshikango
Wholesale but diverted to Onayena and Okankolo, sold items without consent and drove to Omuthiya and parked the truck and disappeared, switching off his cellphone,” explained Shivute.
Stolen items included spaghetti, maize meal, vetkoek flour, tomato sauce and bread flour, among others. “All items were recovered at Okankolo and Onayena on Tuesday after investigations were conducted by the serious crimes sub-division. The items are valued at N$40 000 and belong to Donald Bernard of Van Zyl Trucking in Ongwediva,” added Shivute, saying efforts are underway to trace the suspect.
