Trucker wanted for diverting consignmen­t

OMUTHIYA - The Oshikoto police are searching for a male suspect who is on the run after diverting a consignmen­t of products to his cuca shop in Onkakolo, while abandoning the truck in Omuthiya.

The consignmen­t was destined for Oshikango, however, with the assistance of the owner the police were able to recover the items as the truck is fitted with a monitoring system, said regional police commander Armas Shivute.

“It is alleged the suspect drove from Windhoek to offload stock at Oshikango

Wholesale but diverted to Onayena and Okankolo, sold items without consent and drove to Omuthiya and parked the truck and disappeare­d, switching off his cellphone,” explained Shivute.

Stolen items included spaghetti, maize meal, vetkoek flour, tomato sauce and bread flour, among others. “All items were recovered at Okankolo and Onayena on Tuesday after investigat­ions were conducted by the serious crimes sub-division. The items are valued at N$40 000 and belong to Donald Bernard of Van Zyl Trucking in Ongwediva,” added Shivute, saying efforts are underway to trace the suspect.
