Corrupt individuals not only found in Swapo – Shaningwa
SWAPO secretary general Sophia Shaningwa has said that corrupt individuals are not only found in Swapo, but in opposition parties as well. Shaningwa made these remarks during an interview with Nampa on Wednesday at the party’s headquarters while responding to questions about the impact the Fishrot corruption scandal has had on the party’s image. Two of the party’s senior members, former ministers Sacky Shanghala and Bernhard Esau are implicated in the matter.
The Swapo SG said the media has focused more on publishing what the opposition parties have been saying “in order to tarnish Swapo’s image.”
“They don’t write the same about the opposition parties who also have corrupt members… It is not only Swapo that has corrupt people. We have corrupt people all over, even in the opposition parties but you hardly report about it. I think it is about time and fair for you to expose those who are corrupt in other parties instead of hammering only on Swapo, we are all in the Republic of Namibia,” said Shaningwa.
She was speaking on the sidelines of an event where Swapo welcomed 12 members who purportedly resigned from the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC).
Shaningwa said the 12 individuals were misled and made to believe that Swapo is corrupt but “after they realised the party is not corrupt, they decided to return.” -Nampa
