Oukwanyama leader reinstates Nelulu
OHANGWENA - Leader of the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority ( OTA), Martha Mwadinomho waKristian yaNelumbu has distanced herself from last month’s suspension of OTA council chairperson, George Nelulu, due to alleged misconduct.
Addressing a press conference at Ohangwena settlement in the OhangwenaregiononWednesday, yaNelumbu indicated that certain individual members of the OTA council issued a suspension letter to Nelulu on 26 October “behind her back and for reasons only
known to them”.
She said the same unnamed individuals used her royal stamp, which has been missing for several months, on the letter issued without her consent.
“It is not me who suspended Nelulu and the mystery surrounding his suspension has caused me sleepless nights,” yaNelumbu told journalists, while at the same time announcing that Nelulu is reinstated with immediate effect.
She warned that action would be taken against the culprits once they have been identified through further investigations.
Nelu lu has been the Oukwanyama senior councillor for the Eudaneko district for the past 18 years and he was suspended upon allegations that he surrendered an Oukwanyama portion of land in his district to the Ondonga Traditional Authority without following proper channels.
Speaking during Wednesday’s press conference, Nelulu admitted that he surrendered the land in question “because it is part of the Ondonga Traditional Authority geographically”.
According to him, the local leaders from both traditional authorities ( Oukwanyama and Ondonga) had previously engaged in tribal disputes over the same land.
“Therefore, I decided to surrender it, of course after I informed my leader (yaNelumbu), to harmonise the relations between the local citizens of our two authorities,” explained Nelulu.
He revealed that his suspension resulted in the former President Hifikepunye Pohamba’s intervention and investigations which also suggested that the land does belong to the Ondonga TA. -
