Nyambe out of action with thigh injury

Namibian defender Ryan Nyambe is expected to miss Blackburn Rovers’ Saturday fixture against Luton Town after sustaining a thigh injury away on international duty with the Brave Warriors.

The full back was warming up in a 2021 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Mali in Windhoek when he felt a tweak in his thigh and was forced to pull out of the international encounter and had to watch on as Mali emerged 2-1 victors.

The 22-year-old Namibian defender flew back Wednesday morning and was due to submit his Covid-19 test results before Rovers can assess the severity of his injury. Rovers coach Tony Mowbray provided an update on the defender’s injury yesterday.

“He’s been away in Africa, I’ve seen all the stuff where he missed the game and felt his thigh in the warm-up. Is it a surprise on the back of three flights to the middle of Africa, on the back of the games he’s been playing? Not really. So we’re anticipating Ryan to be unavailable for the weekend, but he’ll have to come back and have a test and have that sent off before he comes back into the training group,” said Mowbray.
