Former NDF commander granted bail

RUNDU - Former commander in the Namibian Defence Force, Major General Thomas Hamunyela, was granted bail on Friday after being arrested for stock theft.

Hamunyela was arrested by the police in the Kavango West region at his farm at Mburundu village on Tuesday.

He first appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court Wednesday morning on a charge of stock theft relating to the theft of three oxen and two cows valued at N$29 000.

Hamunyela then on Friday appeared in the Ndiyona Periodic Court 120 kilometres east of Rundu, where his case was moved as there was no magistrate available in Rundu to handle the matter. He was granted bail of N$5 000. Lawyer Sisa Namandje represente­d Hamunyela. His next court appearance will be on 10 March 2021. - Nampa
