Unam closes regional centres
As part of its restructuring exercise and business process re-engineering, the University of Namibia (Unam) has taken the decision to close all its regional centres.
The university has been managing 10 regional centres across the country at Tsumeb, Khorixas, Swakopmund, Otjiwarongo, Keetmanshoop, Gobabis, Oshakati, Rundu, Katima Mulilo and Eenhana.
The centres, which were located in various regions of the country, served the needs of distance students.
Unam spokesperson John Haufiku says this development is part of Unam’s new strategic intent to put online education at the epicentre of all programme offerings and administrative services.
Haufiku explained that all academic support services that were previously physically conducted at Unam’s regional centres would be offered online.
These services include registration, orientation, study material collection, library services, assignment submission, writing examinations and general enquiries.
As of 2021, Haufiku noted all these services are being offered online and students may visit the student portal for more information about accessing online services.
For any enquiries or additional support while studying, students are advised to contact the nearest campus or in very rare cases make an appointment to visit these campuses.
Eenhana’s students will henceforth be supported by the José Eduardo dos Santos campus, which is by far the largest physical development located in Ongwediva.
Students from Gobabis, Khorixas, Otjiwarongo and Tsumeb will henceforth be supported by the main campus which is located in Windhoek.
Opuwo’s students will henceforth be supported by the Oshakati campus.
He said Swakopmund’s students would from now on be supported by the Sam Nujoma campus which is located in Henties Bay.
