The Bodyguard tackling violence

Recording artist Jason Uudhigu, stage name Jayson No Mercy, has released a song, titled ‘Bodyguard’, featuring producer Solani Zulu, popularly known as Mr Glo. The song is on gender-based violence, particularly discouraging woman abuse, which has been on the rise in the country.

“At the end of 2020, I decided to record Bodyguard to discourage woman abuse, as GBV was on the rise and I felt like we, as artists, should play our part in educating and raising awareness on the matter. Our women should feel safe around us and not the other way round,” shared Jayson.

He added that women should be protected and loved, as they are treasures. How he came across Mr Glo is the singing ability he was lacking.

“I was still looking for someone to sing the Bodyguard chorus for me, as I’m a rapper – not a singer. So, when we were busy making the beat and Mr Glo sang to the chorus, that’s when I realised the search was over. Bodyguard’s music video was shot By Reyne of MBG, and it will be released very soon, as they are still busy with the final touches – just to ensure it reaches the optimal standard,” recalled Jayson.

Mr Glo mentioned it has been a great experience working with Jayson No Mercy, and he is someone who knows what he wants; this is not the first time working together.

“We worked on an album last year, and we are working on a few more to look forward to this year,” stated Mr Glo.

He added that Bodyguard is a fusion of Afrobeat and Kwaito genres.

“We both felt it needed a catchy hook, so I tried to sing it; Jayson gave me the lyrics and it worked. We wanted to achieve a sing-along catchy song; I think, so far, the results show we have done that,” said Mr Glo with a smile.
