Rising by lifting others
With the wave of the back to school preparations in full swing, some good Samaritans understand the struggle parents endure and are willing to lend a helping hand to ensure even the most vulnerable children are adequately stocked.
The Champions Spot Foundation is one of the graceful hands that have identified the agony parents go through when sending their loved ones back to school.
Founded by a group of friends in January last year, the foundation targets orphans and vulnerable children in the coastal region. The foundation has so far made a mark through events and donations last year, and it looks forward to hosting a fundraising event next weekend, themed the ‘Back to School Charity Weekend Party’.
Speaking to one of the co-founders and spokesperson of the foundation, Thomas Iipinge, he said they have so far hosted two successful events last year, with households and orphanages being beneficiaries of this act of grace.
“Some of the notable beneficiaries of our foundation are the Tears of Hope Charity Organisation and the DRC community in Swakopmund,”
said the charitable Iipinge. Elaborating on the purpose of the
foundation, Iipinge said: “We are a group of friends who observed the
plight of the needy in the region. As time went by, we started having more people on board, a sign of hope that there are indeed many people who are willing to help those in destitute – just to give them hope.”
The foundation welcomes funds and resources, and even though it targets those in the coastal region, donations from all parts of the country are welcome.
“We welcome donations such as uniforms, food, stationery and monetary contributions in person during the event or they can be sent to us.”
The back to school fundraising event will take place on the 29-30 January at the Champions Spot in DRC, with performances by DJ Benny The Ace. Covid-19 regulations, such as social distancing, sanitising of hands and wearing of masks, will strictly be maintained.
“We urge everyone coming to the event to ensure they wear their masks properly, and we will have members in place to ensure there is social distancing among the attendees; that they correctly keep their masks on, and especially to ensure they sanitise their hands at the entrance. We will also make sure that the goods received are sanitised before they are handed over to the beneficiaries,” he concluded.
