Swapo dismisses talks of Shaningwa resignation
The Swapo Party last week dismissed allegations that the party’s secretary general, Sophia Shaningwa has tendered her resignation from the party. The allegations making rounds on media platforms have indicated that Shaningwa has resigned from the party because she could no longer defend the party against the Fishrot scandal and that she was not involved in Fishrot neither does she wish to be involved in corrupt activities of the party.
In a statement issued on the same day, Swapo Party spokesperson, Hilma Nicanor stated that the party has taken note of the content circulating on electronic media platforms, saying such messages are false, fake, and forged by those aiming to sow division and panic amongst the rank and file of the Swapo Party.
“We, therefore, urge the Swapo Party cadres, members, supporters, and sympathisers to remain calm, vigilant, and firm, while consciously and critically avoiding the spread of fake news that continues to bedrock the prevalence of electronic media.
Furthermore, we urge you to disregard any article or content that bears the headline “Breaking News” on the Swapo Party and its leadership as false and fake news,” Nicanor said.
The party’s spokesperson went on to say that Shaningwa is excellently fulfilling her constitutional mandate by leading her office without contradiction but with utmost dedication, commitment, hard work, discipline, and loyalty.
“We, therefore, reject the contents of such articles with the contempt it deserves, and remind its authors that the legal rights of Sophia Shaningwa and the Swapo Party remain reserved,” she said.
