Unam reaches out to students

The University of Namibia (Unam) has called on students to submit all outstanding documents and pay fees in order for them to graduate this Friday.

Unam warned students submitting outstanding documents or settling fees after 13 April will only graduate in September 2021.

This is after several students who completed their studies last year expressed concern as they nearly missed out on the annual graduation ceremony after the university reportedly failed to clear outstanding accounts on time.

The graduation ceremony is expected to take place on 16 April.

Students accused Unam’s I-enabler system of crashing, leading to a loss of crucial student information and academic records submitted at registration time. The student portal allows one to submit and update documents.

After New Era ran an article on students’ complaints, Unam on Friday made a U-turn, calling on students to re-submit their outstanding documents and settle fees in order to graduate.

“During your studies, apart from having had submitted certified copies of your documents, such as a national identification card, school leaving certificates, and NQA report, English translation report, you ought to have submitted your original documents for us to update your student record file. If all your originals have been submitted and filed, you are good to graduate,” the Office of the Registrar informed students.

The registrar explained if a student has not done so in the past, is urged to submit their original documents with the recently certified copies before or on 13 April 2021 at any nearest student records office at any Unam campus.

For those with outstanding fees, Unam informed students that all tuition and library fees should be cleared with the finance office before or on 13 April 2021.

Such fees can also be paid to the nearest Unam campus, while bursary holders need to consult their sponsors to fully pay their accounts.
