NPFL action this weekend at Mariental, Windhoek
THE Namibia Premier Football League (NPFL) was officially launched Saturday at Football House and action will officially kick off this coming weekend at Mariental and Windhoek.
The NPFL will replace the expelled Namibia Premier League (NPL) as the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Statutes under Article 18.1, which states: “There shall be only one Top Tier National League in the territory of Namibia”.
World football has two different legal forms of football leagues: Association Model and Separate Entity Model. For Namibia, NPFL director Mabos Vries explains that the NFA Executive Committee adopted to apply the association model with a member association [ma] management structure. In the medium to long term, the Namibia Premier Football League can easily mature into a self-management model depending on the commercial success of the League. “The Namibia Premier Football League legal form will thus operate under the Association Model structure. Through this model the NPFL will be managed, controlled and administered by the NFA through the Secretariat. The League will be financially dependent on the NFA through FIFA development programs and other sources. Vries adds that a governance model for the League, that defines the processes of decision-making and club engagement, has already been developed. It is against this background that the League is supervised by the League Director and support staff.
For the opening weekend of 17 and 18 April 2021, Group A will travel to Mariental while Group B will be in Windhoek. In Group A are: Mighty Gunners, Tigers FC, Eleven Arrows, Young African, Black Africa, Tura Magic.
Tura Magic and Mighty Gunners will open the action at Mariental Stadium at 10h00 on Saturday with two more games to follow on the day while on Sunday Young African and Eleven Arrows kicks off the action at 11h00.
Group B: Civics, citizens, Julinho Sporting, Orlando Pirates, Blue Waters, Young Brazilians. At the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Orlando Pirates will face Citizens at 13h00 to be followed by two more games as well. Sunday will see action resume at 08h0 between Julinho Sporting and Civics.
