Rainhold wants to make history at Olympics
Local long-distance runner Tomas Rainhold, who qualified for this year’s Olympics, says he has been training hard in a quest to rewrite the history books at the upcoming Tokyo Games.
Rainhold recently clocked an impressive time of 2:10:24 at the Xiemen Marathon and Tuscany Camp Global Elite Race in Italy, which saw him taking pole position in the men’s marathon race.
This year’s Olympics will take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, Rain hold said qualifying for the Olympics took lots of hard work and sacrifices, adding that it’s now time for him to show the world what he has up his sleeve.
“It was tough. I made lots of sacrifices and went through lots of late nights and waking up as early as 03h00 in the morning to train. I spent almost four months preparing for the Xiemen Marathon and Tuscany Camp Global Elite Race and through the hard work, I managed to qualify for the Olympics,” he noted.
Rainhold added that going to the Olympics will be a realisation of his long-held dreams and winning silverware in Tokyo will be a bonus.
“I am excited and feel good that I will be representing my country at the upcoming Olympics. Finally, I’ll be competing there wearing my country’s badge with pride. My coach (Robert Kaxuxwena) has been instrumental in shaping me into the person I am today. He is always pushing me beyond my limits. All credit goes to him,” he said.
