Keeping the edges on

- Aletta Shikololo

The importance of motherhood, career and partnership were some of the topics discussed at the ‘Mothers and Business’ panel discussion recently.

Themed “Keeping the edges on”, the event was hosted by actress, mother and businesswoman Tjuna Kauapirura in collaboration with Standard Bank Namibia.

It was designed to bring mothers together in an environment that fosters personal growth, promotes intimate conversations, while creating learning and networking opportunities for mothers and their various proficiencies.

Speaking about the underlying motive of the initiative, Kauapirura said she saw a need for a platform where mothers can come together and discuss various hardships and share information on being mothers and professionals.

“The purpose of this movement is to provide mothers with a platform where they can engage each other, share skills, and mobilise each other,” explained the mother of two.

The event was attended by outstanding mothers from across the board who shared their experiences and stories of how they became who they are and also uplift, especially, young mothers-to-be.

Twenty-one-year-old mother and marketing student, Khadijah Harunga shared her experience of becoming a mother at the age of 17 and the trials of having to raise a child as a teenager.

“I had these expectations of what being a good mother meant. However, despite the trials that come with being a young mother, motherhood taught me patience and to have grace for myself,” she said.

Other panellists included Kauapirura, geologist and the president of the Women in Mining Association of Namibia, Zenzi Awases, Pastor Tanya Amey, Facilitator at Standard Bank Marathe Zaahl, and TV personality Nina Katangana, who was also the moderator of the event.
