Beast Master roars back to life
Veteran pugilist Vikapita ‘Beast Master’ Meroro on Saturday proved to all doubting Thomases that he still has some firepower left in his arsenal when he stopped German boxer Shokran Parwani in the sixth round of their light heavyweight bout, with a vicious right hand to the chin.
The fight, which saw the often inconsistent Meroro reawakening his once sleepy and unkempt beastliness with the crucial win, took place at the Soviet Wings Arena in Moscow, Russia and was one of the many undercard fights to the Anna Levina and Halima Vunjabei fight for the WBC CISBB title.
The 36-year-old Meroro moved with relative ease and his punches connected well, as he kept pushing the skilful Parwani back with some strong hooks to the body and head. Parwani was the favourite going into the fight, but Meroro’s power and experience proved too much for Parwani.
Overall, Meroro enjoyed the lion’s share of the fight and as the rounds wore on, it became evident that Parwani could not handle the Namibian’s powerful hands and experience, especially during moments when they went toe-to-toe in the middle of the ring.
It was until one minute, 20 seconds into the sixth round that Meroro caught an unsuspecting Parwani with a devastating right hand to the chin and it brought the fight to an abrupt end. The German struggled to recover from the vicious blow.
The win saw Meroro stretch his record to 30 wins and 10 losses from a total of 40 fights in the paid ranks. The victory also signalled the redemption of Meroro, who has in recent times enjoyed an assortment of lukewarm results due to his inconsistency.
