Police in South Africa are still investigating the circumstances that led to the death of Namibian musician, Maria Tuna-Omukwathi Uushona, popularly known as Tunakie.

The late singer’s aunt, Angie Nampala, confirmed this to New Era. It is believed the award-winning Shambo artist died shortly after collapsing in her salon in South Africa on 24 April this year.

She has since been laid to rest in northern Namibia after her remains were repatriated back home. According to Nampala, a case has been opened and investigations are ongoing. However, more information will be revealed in due time.

“We are not yet sure what happened, but once the investigations are complete, we will know more about the cause of her death,” she said. At the late singer’s funeral, Nampala who was not specific, advised parents not to let their children take care of themselves.

“Let us teach our children to be at the right place, at the right time, with the right people. We need to avoid deaths like that of my niece.

Parents let us go back to the drawing board and parent our kids. This is a great lesson for all of us,” said Nampala. When asked for clarification, Nampala told this reporter that although her niece’s cause of death is not yet revealed, she claims someone was behind it.

“We do not know what happened, but all we know is that Tunakie was a healthy being and someone must have caused her death for sure,” she said.
