China sets example for global anti-poverty efforts, says African ruling parties and its leaders
China's great success in reducing poverty made it a good example for many Africa's antipoverty efforts. China's poverty reduction and economic feat achieved under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) sets an example for many developing countries, the ruling parties and its national leaders has said.
"China's achievement is remarkable," Jessie Duarte, deputy secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC), noting that "China is an example for many developing countries to learn from in areas such as poverty eradication as well as economic growth and development." Picking up the third volume of "Xi Jinping: The Governance of China" from her desk, Duarte said the book "elaborates on China's courageous, ground-breaking development objectives which emphasize maximum quality and speed while staying true to Chinese cultural identity."
Speaking of the efforts that China has made in building socialism with Chinese characteristics, she said, "It is important that nations adopt ideologies and developmental paths which are true to their own history, national identity, and unique circumstances instead of just following what others are doing." Duarte believed the people-centered approach upheld by the CPC is about dedication to serving the public with unwavering diligence, an idea that resonates with the ANC, which honors the belief of Batho-Pele, or "People First."
"On behalf of the national executive committee of the ANC and its members, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the CPC on a highly successful century," said Duarte. "We wish you even greater success in the coming century."
In addition, Namibia's ruling party secretary general has said that SWAPO has a lot to learn from the Communist Party of China (CPC) on people-centered development, as well as fighting against poverty in rural areas. She was speaking at an information-sharing session conducted by the SWAPO's Party Youth League and the CPC youth members ahead of the CPC's centenary celebrations for early July. Shaningwa said Namibia has created programs on fighting against poverty and will be dedicated to implementing them by learning from China, which has successfully reduced poverty in rural areas through its people-centered programs on agriculture, infrastructure development as well as technological advancement.
“The CPC and the SWAPO party have had cordial relations dating back to the years of our liberation struggle where they supported us, and our two governments continue to cooperate on many developmental aspects for the betterment of our people,” she said. “As a sister party, we want to continue tapping the cooperation of our governments and parties in fostering development for the future,” she added.
National Chairman of Ghana's ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Frederick Worsemao Armah Blay is among African leaders, who also acknowledged that China's success in alleviating poverty demonstrates the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC). Describing China's victory in eradicating absolute poverty as a miracle the world's most populous country has achieved, the chairman said: "It is an example of good leadership, and we should learn from that."
Blay, who has paid several visits to China, said he has been extremely impressed by the country's efforts to address inequalities in development between its east and west, and a boom in its western regions' key sectors such as infrastructure and agriculture has ensured its poverty reduction goal could be achieved. He noted that it is an accepted reality that many African countries are still underdeveloped despite their hard efforts, which highlights the importance of China-Africa cooperation on poverty alleviation.
Christopher Mutsvangwa, ZANU-PF's Politburo member and secretary for science and technology, told Xinhua in a recent interview that China has steadily transformed from a povertystricken country into an economic powerhouse under the visionary leadership of the CPC, which is famous for its people-centered governance approach. Mutsvangwa, also chairman of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association and former Zimbabwean ambassador to China, said the development trajectory that the CPC has taken since the start of the country's reform and opening-up in 1978 has led to China's economic take-off within a short period of time, which in his eyes has set a good example for the developing world, including Africa.
Mutsvangwa spoke highly of Chinese President Xi Jinping's vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind, adding that the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative will bring prosperity and development to countries along the route. "You can modernize without causing war, and this is very good Chinese experience to future superpowers, to future powers, you can modernize without going to war, without creating death and distraction," he said.
Tanzania's ruling party deputy secretary general for Zanzibar, said that the leadership of the CPC is key to China's tremendous development, a great lesson for Tanzania's development policies. These achievements fully prove that the CPC always maintains close connections with the people, the official said, deeming the CPC a party of the people, and more importantly, a party for the people, he said.
African leaders said China is now the second largest economy in the world, and its achievements in development are obvious to all, voicing hope that the two sides will continue to strengthen dialogue in state governance and better align their development strategies, so as to bring more benefits to the two peoples.
