Make the right choices
Silas Panduleni Nikanor is passionate about information technology (IT).
He graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science: Communication Network at NUST in 2019 – and this year, he graduated with a Bachelor of Honours in Communication Networks.
Nikanor (25) is currently the CEO of Grafan Technology Solutions, fixing software and hardware of laptops.
He told Youth Corner that IT is very important for the youth, because much of the IT processes actually rely on creativity and problem solving.
“This field provides you with a unique opportunity to use your tech skills to come up with innovative solutions to problems clients face,” he explained.
Asked what encouraged him to study computer science, he said nearly every company needs a team of savvy computer experts to keep its systems up and running, so he was highly encouraged to study IT for fast job opportunities.
“I chose IT because companies are aware that technology changes at the speed of light, which is why many organisations invest heavily in continuing the education of information technology workers.”
Nikanor stressed that IT will benefit the youth, especially during this time of Covid-19, because it plays a critical role in spreading information during this pandemic.
He added that digital technologies have enabled people to easily and quickly share information.
“Healthcare organisations and government are making use of information technology to improve public health by spreading news related to the Covid-19 virus to millions of people.”
Nikanor said he would love to assist youth who are struggling with computer-related challenges in society, especially those living in the villages.

He further stressed that he wants to be the reason why the youth know computers, and to ensure nobody feels left out when it comes to IT.
“Five years from now, I would like to see myself in a management position. I am going to continue learning and gain IT practical experience until then. But eventually, I want to become a network administrator.”
Nikanor further advised the youth to never be afraid to learn – no matter who is watching.
