Private companies must help Govt in herd immunity campaign: Geingos

-

First Lady Monica Geingos last week pleaded with the private sector to help the Namibian government in its campaign to ensure the country reaches its herd immunity target.

The first lady was speaking at the Trustco vaccination site during her tour to familiarise herself with the different Covid-19 vaccine centres in Windhoek.

Geingos said the government is doing a great job to see to it that every Namibian is vaccinated against Covid-19, but the government alone cannot meet all the requirements to fight the pandemic; therefore, the private sector and all individuals must come on board with good initiatives that will inspire people to be vaccinated.

“I will continue visiting all Covid-19 vaccination centres in the capital – and at the same time, I will support all private sector companies who are committed to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and are committed to fight Covid-19 in other regions. My office, in collaboration with the ministry of health, will facilitate and cooperate with regional campaign programmes and see to it that every Namibian is vaccinated,” Geingos said.

She asked all private companies who are willing to help the government to do so via the Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS), mainly through the office of the executive director, Ben Nangombe.

The Trustco centre started operating on Thursday and will close on Friday at 16h00.

The vaccines available at the centre include AstraZeneca, Sputnik V, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Sinopharm.

On his part, Trustco head of Public Relations and Corporate Communications Neville Basson said the centre forms part of the MoHSS #getvaccinated and #herdimmunity campaign, aimed at ensuring every Namibian has access to the Covid-19 vaccines.

“Trustco fully supports the government ambitions in ensuring that the Namibian public reaches its herd immunity,” said Basson. – Nampa
