We need sports development

-

Henry Ford famously quoted, “coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.”

Indeed sports apart from but also alongside education have been and will continue to help society ease the burdens and everyday socio-economic ills it has to deal with.

Imagine soccer, netball, long distance runners and rugby players just to mention but a few having to attend training during weekdays to be ready for match days. These sportsmen and women don’t only ready themselves but indeed the entire spectrum of supporters, investors, visitors (tourists) and entrepreneurs in particular micro-small and medium enterprises.

Sporting days and events provide opportunities for almost everyone finding themselves in that town, village or city including the young, old and elderly. If only stakeholders and roleplayers who are custodians of society’s social, economic, cultural and political endeavours can fully realise the importance of

accordingly having to develop sports in all the regions of Namibia.

We acknowledge those corporates and individuals who understand the importance of sports and thus continue investing, even during trying financial times. The latter has been the burning issue for many years now, and it continues to hamper the positive development of sports.

Perhaps it’s high time for industry players to consult various leadership structures at regional level to find ways and means to capacitate sports related projects/programmes. Surely, a dollar or two can be spared by regional governments, business people, tenderers etc. considering the flow of funds even surplus funds. Political, business, traditional, sports and religious leaders owe it to the Namibian nation in answering the social and economic call of the masses.

Let us create platforms with the sole purpose to develop sports in our country and thus by so doing continue adding value to the culture of instilling discipline and hard work amongst our people and in particular the future leaders of this republic.
