Defence clarifies recruitment

- -Nampa

RUNDU – The Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs on Friday said it has not in any way invited applications for recruitment into the Namibian Defence Force.

The ministry’s spokesperson, Petrus Shilumbu, made the clarificationinamediastatement as the ministry is inundated with public enquiries on the issue due to false information circulating on social media.

“The minister of defence, during his budget presentation to the National Assembly on 19 April 2022, informed the public that the ministry is intending to recruit young volunteers into the NDF, but did not specify the date and the required number of recruits,” Shilumbu explained.

He said the information provided in the minister’s statement to parliament gives hope to prospective young Namibians who want to join the NDF.

Shilumbu thus urged the public to be patient as the ministry is in the process

of making the necessary arrangements for recruitment.

“This includes determining the number of prospective recruits required, and the date the advert will be sent out to the public,” he noted.

The information circulating on social media, he said, is not in any way inviting applications for recruitment, adding that the person(s) who downloaded the

flier from the ministry’s website and circulated it to various social media platforms has illintentions and wants to deceive the public.

He said recruitment into the NDF is a free undertaking as it does not require any payment of whatever kind, and that those masquerading themselves as NDF recruiting agents are committing a crime.
