We Race Together a success - Nekundi

MTC spokesperson Erasmus Nekundi said the We Race Together charity event, held on Saturday at the Independence stadium, lived up to expectations. The event was part of the annual MTC Knockout Project flagship programme and attracted 140 personalities from various sectors, who competed in 4x100m relay contests.

The overall winners were The Foxes, followed by Welwitschia Legends and then the Namblitz came in third position.

Speaking to this publication, Nekundi said despite the cold weather on Saturday, the event went ahead as planned.

“It attracted a lot of people, despite the cold weather. People managed to come through and show support, which was good to witness,” he said.

Nekundi noted the event demonstrated the importance of working together for a common goal, adding that if people can come together as a country and work towards something, the possibility of achieving it is high.

“The event just showed the nation at large how important it is to work together. It also showed unity and togetherness, which is important. It taught us that if we work together for a common goal, it would be easier to achieve – but as MTC alone, it will be hard to achieve the goal,” he said.

This was the third initiative of the knockout project.

The first edition, which comprised a boxing event, raised funds towards curbing gender-based violence, while the second one, a singing competition, aimed towards collecting funds to fight homelessness.

Nekundi said all corporates involved will now sit down and decide on where the funds collected will go to.

“We will sit down as a collective and decide where the funds will be channelled to. We know it’s going to go towards a charitable initiative but we are yet to decide on that,” he added.
