Labour ministry cautions public of malicious emails

- Staff Reporter

The labour, industrial relations and employment creation ministry cautions it has become aware of a series of malicious emails originating from the email address kyllikki@mol.gov.na. These emails bear the subject line “Message has been processed: Non-Complaince Submission Request” and include an attached zipped folder, labelled “Non-Complaince Submission Request”.

Notably, the email provides recipients with a file report case number, presented as a password that allegedly grants access to a “non-compliance update”. Additionally, the email falsely identifies the sender as Kyllikki Sihlahla in the capacity of “deputy labour commissioner.”

“The Ministry wishes to caution the general public and all stakeholders regarding this fraudulent email due to its utilisation of the ministry’s domain name. Consequently, some recipients may mistakenly perceive it as an official communication from the ministry. It is important to clarify that this email did not originate from the deputy labour commissioner or any authorised personnel of the ministry. The ministry, therefore, advises the public that it possesses no knowledge of the source of these emails and urges everyone to disregard,” reads a ministerial statement from acting executive director Aune Mudjanima.

The ministry further advises recipients and the public at large against opening the attached folder, as it potentially harbours viruses and malware that can compromise respective networks.

“The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment Creation encourages vigilance and urges individuals to exercise caution when encountering unsolicited emails, particularly those that request personal information, contain suspicious attachments or seem incongruent with official communication standards. It is crucial to remain aware of potential scams and promptly report any fraudulent activity to the appropriate authorities,” Mudjanima stated.

She added the ministry remains committed to safeguarding the interests and well-being of the public and will continue to take proactive measures to address emerging threats to maintain a secure and reliable labour environment.
