Cabinet Decisions of the 7th (2024) Decision Making meeting held on 7 May 2024.

Namibia’s certificat­ion by the World Health Organisati­on (WHO) for being on the Path To Eliminatio­n (PTE) of mother-to-child transmissi­on of HIV and Hepatitis B virus for the years 2020-2021, and proposal to host a high-level event for the awarding of the certificat­e by the WHO.

1. Cabinet took note and commended the Ministry of Health and Social Services for hosting the certificat­ion award handover event in Windhoek on 6 May 2024; and

2. Cabinet further directed the health ministry to acknowledg­e and congratula­te staff members who were actively involved in the achievemen­t of this important milestone, and institute measures to sustain the attained status and devise strategies to improve in other areas to enhance service delivery in the health sector.

Introducto­ry courtesy visit to the Republic of Botswana

Cabinet took note of the above-mentioned courtesy visit by President Nangolo Mbumba, and directed the ministries of Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n; and Education, Arts and Culture to take action on bilateral issues in their areas of responsibi­lity.

Introducto­ry courtesy visit to the Republic of Angola

Cabinet took note of the above-mentioned visit by President Nangolo Mbumba, and directed the following Offices, Ministries and Agencies to take action in their areas of responsibi­lity on bilateral issues between Namibia and Angola: a) Minister in the Presidency; Ministry of Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n; Ministry of Agricultur­e, Water and Land Reform; Ministry of Industrial­isation and

Trade; and Ministry of Mines and Energy.

Introducto­ry courtesy visit to the Republic of South Africa

Cabinet took note of the above-mentioned visit by President Nangolo Mbumba, and directed the following Offices, Ministries and Agencies to take action in their areas of responsibi­lity on bilateral issues between Namibia and South Africa: Ministry of Agricultur­e, Water and Land Reform; Ministry of Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n; and Ministry of Industrial­isation and Trade.

Hosting of the Regional Workshop for Southern African States on “Enhancing Equal Access to Legal Aid in Criminal Justice Systems”

Cabinet authorised the Ministry of Justice to host the above-mentioned workshop in Namibia to share experience­s, knowledge and informatio­n on successful nationalle­vel projects regarding legal aid for indigent litigants at a place and date to be determined, in collaborat­ion with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

2024: Nala Feminist Collective Summit

1. Cabinet approved for Namibia to co-host the 2024 Nala Feminist (Nalafem) Summit, which aims to deepen conversati­ons by delving into the theme of “Women Rights to Lead”;

2. Cabinet directed the Ministry of Internatio­nal Relations and Cooperatio­n to provide guidance on the classifica­tions of Very Important Persons (VIP) for delegates expected to attend the summit, and protocol services thereof;

3. Cabinet further endorsed the Ministry of Works and Transport to provide required transport and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safety and Security to consider waiving visa fees for conference delegates.
