Democracy a social system based on rule of law: Former King Gyanendra

-

Kathmandu, 19 February: Former King Gyanendra has said that democracy is a social system based on rule of law which has to be enjoyed by every citizen. Extending greetings to the Nepali nationals on the occasion of the Democracy Day, 7 Falgun, the former King has said that democracy is the best modern governance system, yet, we are debating on it even after seven decades of its achievement. “People’s supremacy and people’s consent are the best essences of a democracy and it cannot be flourished by curbing people’s belief, aspirations, and wishes,” the former King has remarked.

Nepal has existed through a consensus between the people and the institution of monarchy and such a consensus is vital to safeguard the country’s existence, the former King has said and added that the present politics of prohibition and discrimination has pushed the nation towards the present crisis.

His Majesty, in the message to the countrymen, has further said, “A democracy is not limited within the periodical elections and the rule by a particular party’s leader, this is a social lifestyle in which every citizen should share their happiness.

This is the time to evaluate ourselves that to what extent we have become successful to give a height to the national glory, the former King has remarked. Paying tribute to King Tribhuvan, martyrs and freedom fighters, who had contributed to bring democracy in the country seven decades ago, the former King has wished for all the Nepalis stepping towards the path of truth.
