Government, Tharuhat holds third round of meeting

In a bid to woo the support of the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal, the government has already held three rounds of talks with the Tharuhat Tharuwan Joint Struggle Committee (TTJSC) with the latest one taking place on Tuesday.

They are holding talks to find ways to release jailed lawmaker Resham Chaudhary and dismiss the cases filed against others. JSP-N has put forth the demand of releasing Chaudhary as a condition to join the present government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The talks were led by Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ from the government side. The struggle committee has also formed a five-member negotiatio­n team under the coordinati­on of Dhani Ram Chaudhary, chairman of Tharu Kalyankari Sabha (TKS).

Home Minister Thapa informed that the government was positive in addressing the 19-point demand of the Tharuhat committee.

Premilal Chaudhary, general secretary of the TKS, said that the talks were positive. He informed that both sides agreed to resolve the issue of Resham Chaudhary’s release and dismissal of false cases through legal grounds and address the other demands through talks.

Home Minister Thapa, the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Expert Dr Rajan Bhattarai and former Minister for State Bhagwati Chaudhary negotiated from the government side while TTJSC was represente­d by former member of parliament Rukmini Chaudhary, Padma Narayan Chaudhary, Premilal Chaudhary, Chandra Prasad Chaudhary and Prabhat Kumar Chaudhary.
