Alliance partners plan to postpone general elections

The leaders in the present alliance government are lauding that all their moves are for saving the present “glorious constituti­on”, however, they are instrument­al for making it anomalous.

The partners in the government have developed a secret plan for postponing the general election for one year.

According to the Sanghu vernacular weekly, Monday,

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba wishes to extend his tenure for one more year. Deuba believes, he can improve his position in the party if he will be able to prolong his tenure in the government.

Madhav Nepal’s party cannot retain as an independen­t party. Sooner or later, the party is likely to merge with the Maoist Center. Nepal’s party is not in a position to face the general elections in an as-it-is position. The

party may take more time to develop a base for the elections. Therefore, Nepal is in favour of postponing the general elections.

The Maoist Center is also in the same position. The party organizati­on has been destroyed. Therefore, Pushpakama­l Dahal Prachanda also wants to postpone the general election. Can elections be postponed?:

According to the constituti­on, the tenure of the House of Representa­tives will be for five years. However, in an emergency period, the tenure of the House can be extended for one year. The leaders in the alliance government are thinking of using this hole in the constituti­on for extending the House tenure, the Weekly has reported.
