Is India performing double standard?
Kathmandu, 19 September: India is yet to formally recognize Nepal’s constitution promulgated in 2015. Nepal had to face an economic blockade when the Nepali political leaders denied the Indian request to postpone the constitution promulgation date for some time.
The Indian government was not satisfied with the present constitution, thus, relations between Nepal and India remained clod for some years. Still, relations are not cordial as expected.
During the India visit of then prime minister K.P. Sharma Oli, issuance of a joint communiqué was cancelled at the last hours as India denied visiting Nepali PM’s request for recognizing Nepali constitution.
It is odd when Nepal’s President received a congratulatory message from the Indian President and also the Nepali Prime Minister received a similar message from his Indian counterpart. Has India now recognized the Nepali constitution, which is not accepted even by the majority of the Nepali people?
