An uncontrolled and unmanageable country

- PR PRADHAN pushparajpradhan@gmail.com

Where have we reached in this journey started since 1989? Let’s review how this beautiful country with disciplined citizens, responsible leaders and a glorious and prosperous nation has been destroyed! It seems, now we are on the verge of collapse.

Do you know how much liberty we need to enjoy? Should the criminals and traitors only enjoy the cream of the system?

I was shocked to know the list of those media persons, media organizations, local NGOs run by noted academicians and intellectuals receiving American dollars from different American INGOs and institutions. One of my media colleagues had availed the list to me. Another senior colleague further described that the amount mentioned in the list of the recipients was a one-time payment as they are receiving such a fund regularly. Also, he informed that the list doesn’t include the support received from the Nordic countries and also from DFID. Of course, the list has not included the names of those who are receiving support from other countries.

Notably, they, who are included in the list, don’t speak or dispatch or disseminate any reports related to the conversion of religion, murder of Jaysingh Dhami, demolish of the border pillars and encroachment of Nepali territory, etc.

The senior journalist also informed that from the 500 million US dollar American grant project under MCC, 30 percent fund has been allotted for media publicity. Perhaps, the fund is allotted for mobilizing writers, intellectuals, academicians, and others for developing an environment in favour of MCC. If the project is for the purely economic prosperity of Nepal, why it needed funds for campaigning the project?

The year 2022 is the election year. Some INGOs have already started to buy time with noted television channels for telecasting opinion-making programmes. The present “loktantra” is now well known as “loottantra” and if activities taking place today happened during the panchayat days, surely, Nepal would already have been blacklisted and surely, Nepal would have faced economic sanctions.

Our Western friends talk about transparency, good governance, human rights, women’s rights, rights of those deprived people. Are the Nepali citizens able to enjoy these rights guaranteed by the constitution? Talking about good governance and transparency, the government itself is involved in violating these. The issue of policy-wise corruption was first raised by the then chief of the Commission for Investigation on Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Lokman Singh Karki. When he attempted to catch “big fishes”, he faced impeachment. The then prime minister, opposition party leader, leaders from all political parties, MPs, Supreme Court chief justice, all became united to suspend Karki. If action is initiated against corruption, none of the political leaders of the day will remain clean. They all should have to face the jail term. Unfortunately, they are enjoying power and serving the foreigners’ interests. Recently, academician Keshab Prasad Bhattarai had tweeted, “Perhaps, we are the great patriotic people who are lauding voice not in the interests of the country but for China or India or the USA.”

Bhattarai has explained the state of the intellectuals in his brief note. For certain financial gains, we are dancing to the foreigners’ tune.

The country has been destroyed to the extent that it will be a difficult task to manage this country even for a patriotic leader and also a dictator.

We saw how the Taliban force captured Afghanistan ruled by those corrupt leaders! The military under the Afghan government was too corrupt that the officers were busy earning money instead of fighting against the enemies. The Taliban forces fought with the very arms looted from the Army under the Afghan government. Very easily, the Taliban force captured Afghanistan. In Nepal, there is strong penetration of the foreign powers in all sectors. There is a strong reach of the European Union in the court, according to the sitting justice of the SC, who has presented a report to the chief justice for rejecting the projects funded by INGOs. In recent days, the court is giving controversial and contradictory verdicts. Earlier, when an ordinance related to the amendment of the citizenship law was issued by then K.P. Sharma Oli led government, that was rejected by the court. Again, the political parties opposed an ordinance issued by the Oli led government related to the split of the political parties. Finally, Oli had to take back the ordinance. The very ordinance was issued by the present Sher Bahadur Deuba led government but none of the political parties, except the UML opposed the ordinance. The court has now temporarily approved the ordinance related to the split in the political parties. The court, directly or indirectly, giving life to the present government and the system on the whole. In other words, the present system is breathing with the support of a ventilator provided by the court.

The prime duty of the Nepal Army is to protect and preserve Nepali territory, Nepal’s sovereignty, and independence. Is the Army doing

this job?

What is our foreign policy, we are confused. Immediately after the new government took the charge, it constituted the NepalChina border inspection team. According to Buddhinarayan Shrestha, border expert, there is no controversy on Nepal’s border with China but the investigation team has submitted a suspicious report claiming China’s encroachment on Nepali territory in Rolpa.

Shrestha has remarked that this non-issue has been made an issue to suppress the issue of the Indian side encroached Nepali territories. The present government has not been able to speak a single word against the killing of Jaysingh Dhami and India encroached border. It makes clear that the present government is trying to please the Indians and Americans by annoying China.

The serious question is that can we remain as an independent and sovereign nation by dismantling the organs important to run a nation? Can we exist under the present political system encouraging corruption? Can we survive with the present acts of the political leaders?
