Alliance government violating democratic norms
Since the election date is announced for 20 November, the present government has already turned into a caretaker election government. If we believe in democracy, a caretaker government is not allowed to take decisions having longterm impacts.
If we believe in parliamentarian democracy, the House of Representatives (HoR) had to be dissolved along with the announcement of the election date for the next parliament. But the HoR is engaged in ratifying one after important bills which were kept pending for years.
Citizenship amendment bill through fast track: The government has decided to amend the existing citizenship law by resending the citizenship amendment bill to the President without reconsidering the latter's quest. The President, according to the provision of the existing constitution, had sent back the citizenship amendment bill ratified by both the Houses for reconsideration on it by parliament. By humiliating the post of the President, to please their foreign bosses, the ruling five parties having a majority in parliament decided to resend the bill to the President for a seal on it. The majority of the Nepali population believes that the provision for obtaining Nepali citizenship by foreigners is against the nation’s interests and in the long term, it would turn Nepal into Fiji, a country where the Indian nationals have dominated. The election government has decided to remove the provision of seven years for obtaining naturalized citizenship by foreigners married to a Nepali national, which is an act of traitors.
Moreover, the election government has rewarded an Indian company with the West Seti and Seti-6 hydropower projects. The government, violating the existing laws of the country, has decided to reward the Indian company without competition.
Reports state that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba’s brother-inlaw Pramod Rana and Deepak Bhatta are the main brokers in the project. In fact, some brokers are considered to be the permanent rulers in the country, whereas, the PM and ministers are the agents of those noted brokers, political observers believe. Election for no change?: Elections are for a change in leadership. If the leadership is bad or incapable, an election is an opportunity for the voters to get new leadership. Unfortunately, the present government is seen as incapable and has failed in all sectors, even though, the present leadership have wished to run the government even after the election by developing a syndicate of those unpopular and failed leaders.
Those incapable and failed leaders have developed a five-party alliance and again tried to add more partners to the alliance for ensuring their victory. By ending the values of a multiparty system, those political parties having different ideologies and principles have decided to develop alliances just to get a share in the government. They are planning to go to the government not to do anything better for the nation and their voters but to serve the foreign powers and organise daylight loot on the nation's coffer.
Voters are helpless to challenge and defeat those bad and crooked leaders.
