- By Our Reporter

The grilling of suspended Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana by a parliamentary committee has resulted to be counterproductive for the government and leaders who registered the impeachment motion against him with an ill intention of suspending him from his duty, and the lawyers and media tycoons who incited the lawmakers of the ruling parties to impeach him, as in his statement he disclosed more about their illicit activities.

CJ Rana revealed that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and CPNMaoist Centre chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had exerted pressure on him to step down to avoid impeachment. He said NC leader Dina Upadhyaya had reached his home with the message of Deuba and Dahal, but he outright rejected their appeal. According to him, Deuba and Dahal told him that they would withdraw the impeachment motion if Rana quit in one and a half months paving way for Deepak Karki to become the new CJ.

Likewise, Rana challenged the committee to investigate the property of the chairman of Kantipur Group Media Kailash Sirohiya, and lawyers Shambhu Thapa and Harihar Dahal accused them of meddling in the judiciary. Rana went to the extent of telling that Sirohiya be made the CJ. He also said how former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha was trying to hold the grip in CJ even years after his retirement. He also disclosed the wrongdoings of the Nepal Bar Association, media and lawyers. He accused Acting Chief Justice Deepak Karki, Justices Prakash Man Rawat and Hari Krishna Karki, former Bar chairmen Purna Man Shakya and Chandeshwor Shrestha and former Bar general Secretary Lilamani Paudel of spoiling the environment of SC.

In sum, CJ Rana revealed that the government has been intervening in the SC and the media and lawyers target the CJ when the cases of their interests are not punned on hearing as they wished. While defending his acts, the CJ revealed how the government, politicians, media and lawyers were trying to weaken the CJ and destroy the entire judiciary of the nation.
