Happy Dasain

-

Dasain, the biggest festival of the Nepalis has already been started. This is the festival of victory of truth over evils. Unfortunately, in today’s Nepal, we see those corrupt and crooked people who are even blamed for committing serious crimes, are in power. We cannot hope for any better rule from those people. If we go back in history, Nepal’s downfall started when we adopted a multi-party democracy by removing the partyless panchayat system. We appreciate a democratic system but the leaders should be responsible for the nation and the people. In Nepal, we practised democracy but our leaders were not abode by the rule of law and the rule of good governance. Corruption practices were institutionalized and in 1996, within six years of experiencing the multiparty system, the Maoists launched a “people’s war”. In the ten years of the armed insurgency, above 17 thousand innocent Nepalis were killed. Economic analysts believe, the Maoist insurgency pushed back the country’s infrastructural development by one century behind. Following the 12-point Delhi agreement among the seven parliamentarian parties and the Maoists in insurgency under the Indian initiatives a comprehensive peace agreement was endorsed following the introduction of a new system called loktantra. During the insurgency period the government led by Sher Bahadur Deuba had set prices on the heads of the Maoist leaders, today, they are together organizing planned loot in the nation. By keeping aloof political ideology, principle and moral ethics, the democrats and communists are sitting together, moreover, they are planning to capture power further by developing a five-party alliance front in the 20 November election. The basic formula developed by the five-party alliance is to please Delhi and to organize a planned loot in Nepal. They are even ready for handing over Nepali sovereignty to the Indians, which has been made clear from the efforts made by them for amending the citizenship law of the country. The economic situation is hopeless as the country is spending the entire domestic revenue for the operation of the seven provinces by paying salaries and allowances for the political representatives and there left no funds for infrastructural development. The government is blackmailing its citizens by taking maximum profit on essential commodities including petroleum products. The government is paying Rs 60 per litre of the petroleum products, which, it is selling by taking benefit of more than cent per cent of the price. Besides, on the eve of the election, the government allotted billions of rupees for the infrastructural development in the electoral constituencies of those influential political leaders by changing the budget from another title. On the eve of the election, the government opened licenses for new stock exchange companies and insurance companies, understandably, the parties in government are collecting election funds. The corruption that was limited within the Singhadurwar has reached every ward of the country. The mechanism of curbing corruption has become totally defunct. In conclusion, we cannot save the country’s independence and sovereignty from the present political system and also from the present political leaders. We have to change the present political system and punish the present political leaders who are involved in corruption and commission, and other crimes. We hope, after every dark day a new day starts along with the sunrise. We pray to the Goddess Durga for the end of the present dark era as soon as possible as we are unable to wait further to see the continuous destruction of the motherland. Finally, we wish a happy Dasain to all the Nepalis in the country and abroad! May Goddess Durga bless us!
