When nation is defeated

-

The timely election is the beauty of democracy. The voters will elect new leadership for the prosperity of the nation and the people. This is a democratic exercise for electing people’s representatives through a fresh mandate. Unfortunately, the case in Nepal is different. Present Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is on the chair for the fifth time and he wants to sit there again and again. Similarly, Pushpakamal Dahal has wished to become the prime minister for the next tenure as well. K.P. Sharma Oli, UML chair, has claimed that his party will bag the majority and form a majority government. Maybe, Madhav Nepal is also dreaming about becoming the PM again. Upendra Yadav and Mahanta Thakur are also thinking about becoming the PM representing the Tarai community. Dr Baburam Bhattarai, who contributed his seat to Prachanda in Gorkha-2 electoral constituency, is dreaming about becoming the President of the country. Already, he has been able to obtain an election ticket for his only daughter Manushi from an electoral constituency in Kathmandu. Bhattarai didn’t sacrifice his confirmed MP’s position without a give-and-take with Prachanda. We have seen two syndicates – one led by Deuba, and another led by Oli – developed for the 20 November election. Whatsoever the election manifesto of the political parties, it doesn’t matter. Neither the voters seriously analyse and vote for the proper party nor the political leaders are committed to the party manifesto. The only mission is for securing victory either by distributing false commitments or by distributing money or pleasing the foreign powers. To ensure their victory, the leaders have developed syndicates. The nation is spending billions of rupees to hold an election but the voters are helpless as the same cunning faces are being elected again and again and becoming the prime minister and minister again and again. Today, national interests, national priorities, national sovereignty and independence have been cornered, accordingly, political parties having different ideologies have forgotten their political agendas, nevertheless, nepotism, favouritism, and kleptocracy have become the only agenda of the leaders. When the party workers become the slave of their leaders, and when the voters can be influenced by money, those thugs will continue to occupy power. We saw such a political syndicate during the local election and it became a successful model for the five-party alliance, although the two larger parties Nepali Congress and Maoist Center had exploited other small parties. The very model has been introduced by the leaders of the syndicate for enjoying power once more. When they felt that they cannot get elected if contested the election alone, the new formula has been introduced by those corrupt, cunning and conspiring leaders to deceive the voters. Maybe the leaders, who are experienced to loot the nation, will win the election, yet, the nation will defeat as they all are in a race to serve the foreign powers.
