FIT FOR TRANSPORT
The Ministry for Primary Industries has launched a new mobile app that helps farmers, transporters and stock agents determine whether an animal is fit for transport. The app has been developed with vets and industry experts and is an easy and efficient tool to ensure the welfare of animals is priority. Director of verification services, Dr Chris Kebbell said people in the primary sectors were well aware of the fitness for transport requirements, but MPI veterinarians at processing plants still saw some animals arrive that should not have been transported. The app includes information bases on transport requirements in the codes of welfare for dairy cattle, deer, sheep and beef cattle and is available on most smart devices.
