• Transplant colourful Swiss chard seedlings. The Rainbow Lights blend includes several psychedelic shades and has a milder flavour than green Fordhook Giant silverbeet.

• As summer crops come to an end, sow green manure or cover crops in empty beds. Mustard germinates rapidly, feeds bees and is a natural soil steriliser.
