Letter of the month

- Ruth Anne Caukwell

It was with tears in my eyes that I read your article [in the April issue] about Rachel Hunter’s loss of her mother, Janeen. I lost my precious mum, Marie, last year very suddenly and, just as Rachel has been grieving, I have been too. It is because of my own personal journey that I can completely understand Rachel’s one – both in a spiritual and physical way – and why she has made changes in her life. When going through pain as deep as this, it becomes a choice whether to ultimately “curl up and die” or find a purpose deep within. So very hard to do, but our mums would want us to carry on, be happy and to live! By doing so, we are honouring our loved ones in such an amazing way. Though the scars remain, we can choose to become strengthened by our memories, treasure and carry them with us as we keep walking forwards in our lives. What a courageous, amazing lady you are, Rachel – thank you for your inspirational story.
