ERNIE BISHOP’S MURDER

During a botched raid on the factory where he worked, gentle and shy Ernie Bishop - husband of Emily - was shot by two young hoodlums. He was trying to talk them out of stealing the factory wages, just as owner Mike Baldwin burst into the office, accidentally knocking one of the men’s arm and causing the gun to go off. Ernie later died on the operating table. Ernie’s 1978 death was relived by fans 27 years later when one of his killers returned to the Street in 2005 to track down Emily to beg forgiveness after being released from prison.
