THE HANDMAID’S TALE SEASON 2 (HULU ON LIGHTBOX)
After the brilliantly provocative and confronting first season, I had to brace myself for The Handmaid’s Tale, Season 2. After banking an Emmy and a Golden Globe for its first season, Elisabeth Moss is again a tour de force in Season 2. We are now “off-book” – the first series fleshed out Margaret Atwood’s novel, but this one (under Atwood’s guidance) moves into new territory. Moss’ June Osbourne/Offred, the now pregnant “Handmaid”, is refusing to be cowed by her oppressors, whose methods have become more horrific, the consequences more unbearable. The only thing keeping her safe is the baby inside her. Again, I am totally drawn to her story, and if you loved this the first time around, Season 2 will once again do the trick.
