About the author

Australian Women’s Weekly NZ - - BOOKS -

Debut crime fiction writer and father of two, Chris Hammer, was born in Longford, Tasmania – the same small town that produced Booker prize winner Richard Flanagan. “There must be something in the water,” he tells The Australian Women’s Weekly. Chris spent most of his childhood, though, in Canberra “in a loving but at times fractious family”. He has worked for 30 years as a political journalist and that search for the truth inspires his books. “Journalism gives you a great insight into the world; a licence to be curious, to stick your nose in where it’s not necessarily welcome, to learn the real reason things happen,” he says. Chris’ first book was an award-winning non-fiction title, The River.
