BOOKS: a great read by Kazuo Ishiguro, plus the month’s best fiction and more
Kazuo Ishiguro was born in Nagasaki, Japan, and moved with his family to Guildford in the UK when he was five years old. His grandfather would send him children’s superhero books from Japan, which captivated him in suburban England. Kazuo initially wanted to be a musician, but facing rejection studied for an English and philosophy degree, and a master’s in creative writing. He published his first novel at 27, and at just 35 won the Booker Prize for The Remains
of the Day, which also became a hit movie. In 2017, Kazuo won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
