Golden milk
Golden milk, also called a
golden latte, contains turmeric, warmed milk and ingredients like pepper and cinnamon. It’s delicious and photogenic but becomes
problematic when accompanied by claims it can boost immunity, “help your liver detoxify” and “offer protection from some types of cancer”. Golden milk’s supposed healing powers
spring from a group of compounds in turmeric called curcuminoids. According to Dr Emma Beckett, human trials on curcumin use doses of up to 12 grams per day and since turmeric is only about three per cent curcumin, you have to eat “over 100 grams every day,” Dr Beckett says. Even if you're willing to ingest turmeric by the heaped tablespoon, “human trials have been inconclusive.”
