Q: Is our bone density locked in by a certain age?

-

A: “Our body is constantly making new bones with a process called remodelling,” says Dr Mansberg. The link between bone density and age is that we hit peak bone mass at around 30 years old, and then from 50, most women rapidly make far less bone than they are losing. “The process doesn’t stop – it just becomes less efficient, which is where exercise, diet and in some cases, medication helps.”
