How

to add glam

The prerequisites

The first step is to get rid of clutter, as glamorous interiors are very pared back. Take inspiration from hotel rooms – the have the necessities in terms of furniture, and everything has a purpose.

The trick is in the layering of fixed materials before the furniture and styling. The statement is added using the floors and walls. Furniture and styling are the icing on the cake.

Elegant wall mouldings or linings, gorgeous stone benchtops, wardrobe mirrors, beautiful flooring and statement lighting set the scene.

Always bear in mind

Nothing in the room should be too over the top – think modern, refined and tailored rather than traditional and fussy.

Glamorous interiors often have a neutral base with a combination of beautiful fabrics, furniture and accessories in neutral tones of ivory, white or grey.

Luxurious textures such as velvet, silk and leather add a subtle message. Glamour is layered with more statement materials such as metallics, lucite, crystal and stone.

Budget hacks

If you’re on a budget use clever styling to get this look. Keep a neutral furniture base and cleverly layer to add glamour.

Style the bed with luxe fabrics such as a velvet quilt or sateen duvet cover, and add stacked pillows and a statement headboard. At the foot of the bed put a rug, and place a bench seat on top.

Style tables, consoles and bookshelves with beautifully placed lamps, stacked books, statement objects and florals. Rugs should be plush, accessories sculptural, art modern-abstract and florals tailored.

Consider splurging on

Statement stone for your kitchen bench and matching bathroom vanity tops.

If you’re only buying furniture and accessories, splurge on furniture such as a sofa and occasional chairs – modern sculptural shapes can really set the style of the room.

You can get glamorous lighting, mirrors, art and accessories at great prices at everyday retailers.
