My favourite thing about this time of year is…

The cold. I love winter and feel like a fish out of water in the summer. Must be my Scandi genes. Sadly, it doesn’t get cold enough here for my liking.

Life is too short for…

Listening to people talk about what diet they’re on.

I feel most comfortable when I’m…

Wearing Dad’s bush shirt at the family whitebait hut in Taranaki.

At the moment, I’m most looking forward to…

Beginning work on Brokenwood season eight. I miss throwing myself utterly into an all-consuming machine for months on end in a relentless winter!

The best item I ever purchased was…

My surfboard. It represents a victorious moment where I said, “I’m going to give this a hoon,” despite my inner critic saying, “No, you can’t do that, loser!” And now

I get to take it out in the ocean and feel like I’m at one with the wild unknown. Occasionally I feel like I might die too. Which is all part of the experience.

My top three priorities for 2021 are…

To figure out how to grapple with the endless issues society faces while maintaining a playful and optimistic spirit. To ask the voice in my head that tells me I can’t do something to politely f*** off. To make a conscious effort to engage with te reo Māori.

The three words I would use to describe myself are…

I asked my boyfriend to answer this and he said, “Pretty, funky and sharp.” Nailed it, babe! But I’m going to go with extreme, naïve and loving.

If I could star in anything, it would be…

Something with stunts, some wires that flip you around, some blood, a green screen... I’d love to know what it feels like to be on one of those big-budget epics.

When I’m working hard, I unwind by…

Listening to cancelled hip-hop artists in the sauna.

A great show I recently watched was…

Mare of Easttown. I love a fully formed and authentic world to disappear into.

I’m drawn to shows set in cities where the place is a huge character in itself. It’s kinda been the only form of travel lately.

If I had to choose another career…

I’d be a teacher because I like kids. But I can’t do maths, so we’d probably just watch videos instead.

The greatest joy about what I do is…

it affects other people for the better, even in tiny ways.
