The Heartbeat of Trees, Peter by Wohlleben, Black Inc
Wohlleben spent 20 years working for the Forestry Commission before setting up a woodland in Germany, where he worked on the return of primeval forests (natural ancient forests untouched by agriculture or industry). In Japan he takes us “forest bathing” and on an experiment through the forest to learn how to take a noseful of our surroundings. Most people connect with sight, yet when you breathe in trees and plants, you can describe scents of the forest. And did you know that young tomato plants can respond to touch? Stroke them each day and they slow their upward growth, putting their energy into growing a thicker stem, which puts less pressure on their roots when wind blows!
