M “y dad is my great mate. I’ve always said he’s a clown disguised in a suit. He’s a hard-working business owner from nine to five, but otherwise he’s the life of the party, the class clown and the best set of ears. As a kid, he was always trying to make my brother and I laugh with his silly characters and faces, and often you’d find him playing with our toys – even if we weren’t there. As an adult, he’s become a wonderful friend. We’ve spent a lot of time sharing fried rice and a dozen wontons, pondering the bigger questions of the world with a bottle of cheap red nearby. He’s taught me a lot of things, but here’s just 10 of them...

1

The difference between good music and bad music, leading me to believe music peaked around 1975 and has been slowly declining in quality since then.

2

A sense of humour will get you through all of life’s challenges. Humour is the perfect ingredient to get you both in and out of trouble.

3

As well as teaching me to drive, he taught me that the most important part of driving is having a good sound system and a jampacked CD wallet.

4

Being an adult doesn’t have to be boring and serious. Stay ridiculous.

5

You never grow out of giving and receiving cuddles.

6

The fundamentals of physical comedy – it’s amazing what you can do with a false tooth, a foot and a doorway.

7

A corkscrew isn’t the only way to open a bottle of red wine – a knife, a sieve and a can-do attitude will always do the trick.

8

The power of positive-thinking is very powerful indeed.

9

Following a silly dream hard enough makes it suddenly not that silly at all.

10

You don’t need to know all of the words to the song to get up and sing it in front of everyone you know. Just turn on the charm and sing like you’re Neil Young himself.
