The Unusual Abduction of Avery Conifer by Ilsa Evans, HQ

-

Two grandmas who in normal circumstances can’t stand each other come together to protect their granddaughter in this sharp, funny and very readable novel about the power of love. As the story opens, Cleo is in jail for contravening an AVO, lodged in favour of her ex, Daniel. This has left their daughter, Avery, in Daniel’s wholly inadequate care, with regular help from his mum, Shirley. But when Shirley discovers suspicious bruises on her granddaughter she fears her son is responsible. Panicking, she takes Avery to Cleo’s mum Beth’s house and together they abduct the four-year-old with Shirley’s 89-year-old mum, Winnie, joining them en route.

The three matriarchs go on the run with the police and media on their tail.
